Police Seizure Nets Slot MachinesA recent raid of a slot machine establishment turned up a large load of slot machines that were being run illegally. The police had been watching more than a hundred establishments that they thought might be running illegal slot machines, and waited until they had enough evidence to both prosecute and perform the raid. In Kuala Lumpur the Sentul district police ordered the Tenaga Nasional Berhad or TNB to cut off power to the 116 locations that were running the illegal slot machines. They used the provisions stated under Section 21 (a) of the Electricity Supply Act of 1990 to perform such a move. Sentul Deputy OCPD Supt. Zainuddin Ahmad said that during the raid they made 248 arrests of those playing and owning the illegal slot machines. Many of those arrested were foreigners aged between 20 and 35. During the raid they seized 2,085 illegal slot machines, and police say that they are worth more than RM5.2 million. The raid, nicknamed “Ops Dadu” was carried out from the beginning of this year, in January, and ended on December 14th. They have been diligent about watching the establishments and building a case against each one of them. They said that six of the cases have already been taken to court, but others are still under investigation. They are waiting until they have more evidence before charging the suspects as they want the cases to stick.
