Not Everyone Thrilled

Not everyone in Maryland is thrilled that slot machines are coming back to the state. There are many residents that say that the slot machines were outlawed four decades ago for a reason. They say that the damage that the slot machines did to the state will not be easily repaired if they are brought back again.

It was surprising to many that the slot machines were legalized in the state, as many thought that the bill would not pass. Those that voted against the machines say that it means bad news for the state, and that before you know it there will be slot machines on every corner again. They say that officials were jailed and the “community was destroyed” the last time they were legal.

This time around though, many say that those that voted for the slot machines are not old enough to remember what it was like last time. They say that they are looking at dollar signs and they think that it will be like getting free money. However, this is not how it works. Not only will crime increase, but so will suicides and the depression that comes from slot machine addiction.

They say that this money is not free in any sense of the word, as it has to come from someone. That someone is usually the poor and uneducated who think that they can actually win from playing them, not realizing that they cannot. They end up with less money than they had before, which drives them into a deep depression and quite often ruins the family unit. They are concerned that whatever amount of money that comes from the slot machines will be too high a price to pay.
