Injunction Lifted on Ban
There
was an injunction against the state to keep them from enforcing
the law that says that they could not have slot machines, but a
federal appeals court has now lifted that injunction. This means
that within three weeks the state can start shutting down these
slot machines. The charities are obviously looking for another
appeal to hold off on the state shutting them down, but it is
not looking hopeful for them right now.
They say
that there was a law that was passed last year that made their
slot machines illegal. They say that the law violates the
Americans with Disabilities Act that allows those that are
hearing impaired, blind, or without the use of their limbs to
not be able to play bingo. They say that the bingo machines are
the only games that they can easily use and that this becomes a
hindrance to them if they lose this ability. But the state maintains that the bingo machines are slot machines and there isn’t much else that can be done about it. They say that if residents want to play at the slot machines they are going to have to go to a legal casino and do it, not just anywhere else.
