Maryland
Says Yes to Slot Machine License
It would
appear that after more than a year in set backs for the state of Maryland when it comes to their slot
machines, that they are finally starting to make a move toward
it actually happening. The state has been plagued by problems
with slot machines and have been unable to get any up and
running – leaving them with a lack of slot machines and revenue
into the state. This is obviously not what lawmakers thought was
ahead of them when residents finally approved them.
However,
a state commission has finally approved a slot machine
commission license for a site in
Anne Arundel County
on Monday. The proposal still has to get local zoning approval
which could put it dead in the water if things go the way they
have been, but local officials are hopeful that it will pass. If
it does it will be the state’s largest slot machine facility –
but again, this is Anne Arundel
County.
Residents were all for the approval of slot machines in the
state, but they did not realize that they were proposing putting
one of their locations in Anne Arundel
County. They are concerned
with where they want to locate it – right by their mall.
Residents say that the amount of traffic in that location is too
much already, and to add in a slot machine parlor would be too
much.
The
state commission has approved the location to have as many as
4,750 slot machines which would really make it a very large
location. If the zoning laws approve it as well, it could be
open by December 2011. It isn’t quite what the state had
envisioned when slot machines were first approved, but it is
better than nothing.
