Asia’s Gaming Sector Poised to Take OverWith Macau and Singapore becoming gambling Mecca’s in their own rights, it was only a matter of time before people would start looking toward those areas of the glove for casino stocks. The focus on the stock market in that area shows that with the influx of slot machines and casinos, those companies are holding some of the highest records currently for stock pricing. Malaysia’s Genting Bhd is currently up more than 40% over the past year, as is Australia’s Aristocrat Leisure Ltd. Genting build Singapore’s second casino, and Artistocrat is the world’s second largest slot machine maker. What investors are finding is that Asian casino stocks are less expensive than other stocks relative to their earnings. At some point they will catch up, but not just yet. With Macau recently passing Las Vegas as the word’s biggest gambling market, it is no wonder that stocks are performing as they are. Macau is the only place in the world’s most inhabited nation that allows slot machines and games of chance, so the money is pouring into them hand over fist. Those casinos that are running slot machines in Macau as well as other places have seen a boom in their stocks because Macau is the driving force behind them. The ten largest casinos trade an average of 34.9 times earnings because of Macau. Wynn is the only exception to the rule, but they are opening a almost $7 billion casino this year, which will add them to the pot as well.
