Five Slot Machine Casinos are ComingMerseyside has passed the first test in being able to bring in slot machines, they just found out yesterday. Supposedly they have been awarded a “certificate of consent” which they have to have before they can move on to having their bid for a slot machine casino even considered. They just found out that Southport did not get a slot machine license, but they are excited about the fact that they are right on track for the other five. They have five different applications that have been accepted for Liverpool – and are still waiting to hear on two others that they have submitted – one in Birkenhead and one in Southport. There have been 90 casinos initially approved, with 138 having permanent slot machine licenses. Even as they are celebrating however, there are those who do not want to see the slot machines come in to Liverpool. They say that the number of casinos is already too many – and by adding more they are asking for widespread addiction for their residents. Liverpool’s City Council has heard the fears, and their response is that they do not believe that they are headed toward becoming the next Las Vegas. Some of the new slot machines will simply be changing hands – so that there are some new casinos yes, but there are also some that are from other places that are relocating.
