Peifer on Slot Machine Committee

Rep. Mike Peifer was pleased to find out that he would be serving on the House Gaming Oversight Committee, as well as the House Game and Fisheries Committee and the House Finance Committee. He has a financial background, being a trained accountant, and requested to be on the House Finance Committee.

He is also pleased with the other two positions, as they will allow him to flex his financial muscles by overseeing taxpayer funds, as well as environmental issues as they pertain to gaming.

The Gaming Oversight Committee will be overseeing the slot machines and the horse racing industry. The committee’s job is to ensure that “strict ethical guidelines” are followed after they establish what they will be. They will receive legislation regarding the slot machines and will then enforce it.

He was particularly pleased by this appointment as he has two of the slot machine casinos in his region and wanted to make sure that they were handled properly. He said that he will be able to see “firsthand” how they are affecting his constituents, and how he can enable things to work better.

He believes that he will do the most good on this sort of slot machine committee, as he knows that those people who live in those areas will be able to tell them the impact that they slot machines are having on them, and how they might be able to enact change for the better.
