Sands Slot Machines Won’t Run Until JulyAccording to a recent report, the Las Vegas Sands won’t have their slot machines running until July 2008 – a date many thought might come earlier. Whether or not that was actually a possibility is one thing, but the Sands is not planning on rushing the construction of their new slot machine casino. The Las Vegas Sands won the right to have a slot machine casino in Bethlehem, PA, at the site of the old Bethlehem Steel mill. The mill has been out of business for years, and bringing in the slot machine casino is exactly what the town needed. Sands officials say that they discussed opening a temporary facilty to house the slot machines while the permanent one was finished, but they chose not to. They say that they are going to put all of their efforts into the permanent casino and move their slot machines directly into it. They say that by skipping the temporary casino, they will have their permanent one finished even sooner than originally thought. The Sands should ultimately be the largest casino in the state, but there will be several smaller slots machine casinos up and running before them. The Mount Airy Resort and Casino is planning on being the first stand alone casino up and running and they expect to have 2,500 of their eventual 3,000 slot machines in by the end of the year. The Sands group is planning on breaking ground by May.
