Senate Soon to Vote on Table GamesWest Virginia’s House has chosen to pass a bill that would allow table games to join slot machines at the state’s four racetracks. The Senate is expected to vote after extensive review, but with the bill passing the House many think it will be an uphill battle. It was not expected that the bill would get this far, so many sat back and waited. They now have to kick it into high gear if they want to make sure that slot machines remain the only form of gambling in the state. Some are excited about the bill, they think that the fact that the bill will allow for increased purses at the tracks, as well as adding to senior care – these are things badly in need of funding that there just isn’t any money for. However, some are equally as not thrilled with the bill because there isn’t any funding for education. Many think that a percentage of the table games need to go to the schools in counties that have increased enrollment. It would be divvied up statewide, county by county, based on the number of new students each county has. Some say they will not support the bill without education included, others say they will vote on it no matter what. Whichever way it goes, it is bound to be a heated discussion. One thing is for sure, with the House already having approved it, if the Senate makes changes to it there is a possibility that there could be a trip back to the House to see if they will pass the new bill.
