Table Games are Seemingly the Way to GoWest Virginia’s gambling industry is ready to move forward onto bigger and better things – namely table games. The group wants to add table games to the existing slot machines, as they know that with neighboring states bringing in slot machines, their hold on the industry is about to get much smaller. They believe that the only way to hold onto the lead that they already have with the slot machines is to legalize the table games. Normally the House is not inclined to give approval on any sort of expansion of gambling, but this time it seems to be ahead of the pack. Several bills are currently sitting in the House that would legalize table games. They want it decided county by county as to whether or not they want to legalize the table games – and are starting with those counties that already allow slot machines. Experts have estimated that with Pennsylvania legalizing slot machines they could be looking at losing roughly $423 million a year in revenue. The tracks are looking at losing $17 million that goes to their purses, which will make it very difficult to compete with other states’ tracks. They are also quick to point out that if the state starts losing slot machine revenue, they will also start losing jobs. By bringing in table games to supplement the slot machines, the state will add new jobs instead of losing them.
