Washington Considering Raising Slot MachinesThe current limit of slot machines is too low for the tribes in the state, according to a recent proposed agreement from the tribes. They are asking that the state consider raising the number of slot machines allowed 48%. The agreement would also allow them to raise the amount that they bet on each of those slot machines. The tribes would like to add as many as 8,100 slot machines to their casinos – which would bring the number of slot machines in the state over 25,000. They would also like to see the amount that people can bet on the slot machines raised on 15% of their overall machines – from $5 to $20. It would also let them use cash, instead of tickets, and one button plays. If they are successful, it would completely change the face of gambling in Washington. The changes still have to go before the governor and the Washington State Gambling Commission, and would be part of the compacts that the state has with the 27 tribes that currently have compacts with them. The tribes say that they are asking for so much because they would prefer to have the options, although they are not planning on using the entire amount that they would be allowed. The tribes would not add any more casinos, but would be able to add to the number of slot machines that are currently in the existing casinos.
