New Slot Machines to Play in Southern California

Now that they have been approved for slot machines, four tribes have gotten to work on bringing those slot machines in so that they can start making some money off of them. Four tribes got the go-ahead from voters on Tuesday to bring in 17,000 slot machines. They have been working hard to get those machines ready as they know that the sooner they have them up and running, the sooner the money starts rolling in.

The new deals obviously replace the old ones, and now their first payments are going to be more than $40 million. They are due by June 30^th, which is the state’s fiscal year end. The reason they know that the amounts will be more than $40 million is that lawmakers figured that number on the number of existing slot machines in the state, not the number that will be when they are finished with their additions.

The state does not currently receive money from the slot machines, but with the new deal they are expected to bring in more than $2 billion annually. Governor Schwarzenegger says that he thinks that the slot machines will end up bringing in more than $9 billion over the next 22 years.

However, his critics paint a different picture. They say that the slot machines are going to bring in somewhere around $3 billion, and that the governor is inflating the amount just so he can get them approved. Others take issue with the fact that he has said that he would not cater to the tribes and their want of slot machines, and now he has given them more than any governor in the history of the state.
