Rocky Gap Plan Under Question

There has been some concern by residents over the new Rocky Gap Lodge and Resort. They are worried that the developers that have said that they are bringing in a slot machine parlor may not be planning on living up to their word if they win the election. This has many wondering which way they should vote.

In what seemed to be a good deal for Allegany County, a slot machine parlor was supposed to come in and this would bring in millions in revenue for the state and for the county. However, now Senator George Edwards is attempting to push through legislation that would pay back the county a portion of their investment if the builders don’t spend all of the money that they are supposed to.

However, to residents this says that they are giving the builder an out. Instead of hiring local workers at a fair wage to build the slot machine parlor, they could hire cheaper, out of state labor instead. With the bill saying that the county would be paid back, that is all well and good for the county but that does not make up for the lack of jobs for residents.

They are waiting to see if the referendum passes in November, as it is now up to them to pass the slot machine legislation or not. The builders say that residents are looking at it the wrong way, that it doesn’t have any thing to do with labor. That it is about the design of the building, not the construction.
