It seems every time you turn around these days there is some sort of court case or hearing having something to do with gambling and/or slot machines. Some of these events go by with a barely anyone noticing, but others are larger events that people have been waiting to see what would happen in the end. The Deadwood slot machine case is one of those ones that people have been waiting for.

Ever since the South Dakota House of Representatives and Governor Mike Rounds started talking about increased fees on slot machines people have been paying attention. Rounds announced that he wanted to increase the slot machine fees on those located in Deadwood, and then it went to the House. Now the House of Representatives has announced that they support the idea Rounds has proposed.

The measure is HB1251 and it is ready to go before the House State Affairs Committee on Friday, but many know already that they are planning on it getting passed. They say that the increase in fees on the slot machines will bring in much needed income for the state and that is a win-win as far as they are concerned.

Rounds wants to increase the fees on the slot machines by $1,000 a piece. This would cap at $3,000 per slot machine and would end up bringing in a lot of money for the state. The casino operators say that an increase in slot machine fees is just not feasible right now as they have already started feeling the pinch from the slot machines as not as many people are playing them these days.
