Thousands of Slot MachinesHouse Bill 777, currently sitting in Maryland’s House of Representatives would bring in slot machines to their major airport, thus bringing in a lot of money for the state. Lawmakers are considering adding 3,000 slot machines to Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, so that while travelers are waiting for flights they can be putting their money into state coffers. Eric Bromwell started the bill in an attempt to bring in additional income to the state, and knew that with the millions of people who travel through BWI on a yearly basis that there could be substantial money coming in from them. However, the bill does not come easily as there are those that do not want to see the slot machines brought in at the airport. Governor Martin O’Malley is one of them, and he says that it is a “bad idea.” This could make it difficult for the bill to pass without the governor’s support. The slot machines would be behind the security check points so they would really focus on those that are waiting for flights, as opposed to those leaving or just entering the airport. House Speaker Michael Busch’s camp says that they are undecided on the slot machine bill and that they might consider waiting to see how everything else pans out before they consider adding more locations for slot machines. Last year voters approved bringing in slot machines, but so far there have not been large amounts of income coming in from them due to a slow economy.
