Nevada
Sees Big Drop in Slot Machine Revenue
The slot
machine industry has been having a hard time lately – and it is
all due to this pesky recession that we can’t seem to shake.
Most people are choosing to save their money any way that they
can, and they are not really interested in spending it on
something like a slot machine. Not only that, but if they don’t
live right by a casino, they have to spend money that they don’t
really have on a hotel, plane fare, gas, food, etc. in order to
travel somewhere that does have slot machines.
Well, it
is no surprise to places like Las Vegas
and Atlantic City that their
numbers are down, but it did come as a surprise to many that
Nevada
has just seen their biggest percentage drop ever in their gaming
revenues. The state saw their slot machine and gaming revenues
drop by 10.4% which is the largest percentage drop, single year,
in the state’s history of gaming.
Their
casinos took $10.392 billion from patrons last year, which is
the lowest they have seen since 2003 when their all time low at
that point was $9.62 billion. The Gaming Control Board said that
obviously they were not happy with the way that their numbers
had gone this year, but they were hopeful as the majority of
their losses happened in the beginning of last year. They said
that they saw their numbers increase as the year went on.
He said
that their gaming revenues were down 13.4% for the first half of
the year and down only 7.2% for the second half of the year.
This means that although their slot machines were not doing as
much business as they were before last year; at least their
numbers were improving. They are hoping that this year the
numbers continue to rise and that they might see an end to this
recession.
