Victory
Land
Closes
The slot
machine location Victory Land has closed, and not everyone is
upset by it. John Tyson, Jr. who is the head of the state of Alabama’s Task Force on Illegal Gambling,
said that he was surprised that they had closed their doors, but
that he was not upset by it at all. He said that if they chose
to reopen their doors that he would not hesitate to raid it for
the use of illegal slot machines.
The
state of Alabama has made it very
clear that they will not tolerate the use of illegal slot
machines, of which many are referring to as bingo machines. The
state says that bingo machines are not legal and that they are
nothing more than glorified slot machines and the courts have
upheld that decision by the governor. They have been raiding the
various establishments and shutting them down or seizing their
slot machines. They said that if they want to play bingo they
have to do it with a paper and a pen, not a slot machine.
The task
force was planning a raid on
Victory
Land when they closed
their doors. The slot machine facility closed the doors to their
gambling area, as well as their hotel, dog track, restaurant,
etc. They had barricaded the main entrance with mini busses and
security vehicles. They also closed their Country Crossing slot
machine gaming facility in Dothan.
The
problem is that although they were running illegal slot
machines, they were also the largest employer in
Macon
County and now 1,800
people were out of work. This does not matter to Tyson though,
he said that if they were to open up again he would raid it
because they are running illegal slot machines and the state
cannot allow that to happen.
