Woman
Sues Casino
for Wrongly Accusing Her of Cheating
The
Delta Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel has gotten themselves in a
bit of hot water. The casino wrongfully accused Connie Sue
Broussard of cheating at their slot machines, detained her, took
her winnings from her, and then took her to jail. Not a good way
to get a positive public image out there.
Broussard was at the casino on February 5th of last
year with her husband where she proceeded to play the slot
machines for several hours. She says that she won on some of
them and lost on others, but when all was said and done she had
a little more than $13,000 in winnings. When she went to cash in
her vouchers, the casino’s employees accused her of cheating and
they detained her. They took her vouchers and led her to an
isolated room where they detained her for an hour and a half
interrogating her. Then they took her to jail.
On
November 16th the casino dropped the charges stating
that she was not cheating on the slot machines and returned her
money to her on January 15th of this year. Too
little, too late said Broussard and she has filed suit against
the casino. Broussard has spent the last year fighting these
slot machine accusations and they weren’t true. Not only that
but she says that she was humiliated, embarrassed, and
frightened by their behavior.
The suit
says that not only was she cleared of any wrongdoing with the
slot machines, but that the casino did not control their
security staff, they did not stop them from falsely arresting
and detaining her, they did not properly inspect the slot
machines and make sure that they were working properly before
accusing her of wrongdoing, etc. She is seeking $75,000 worth of
damages.
