Corpus Christi Approves Slot Machines

This is a big deal for the people of Corpus Christi. Their City Council has unanimously approved a slot machine resolution that will urge lawmakers to allow slot machines at their race tracks. The city said that they are tired of watching their residents go to other states to spend millions of dollars on slot machine gambling, when that money could be spent in their own state and put to good use. They say that they are aware of the budget shortfalls that have affected everyone, and they are not going to allow it to continue when there is something that can be done about it.

They also say that they are including bingo halls in their legislation, as the resolution specifically called for tribal lands and race tracks but did not mention the bingo halls. They said that the bingo halls have to turn all of their slot machine profits over to non profits and charities, just as they do now with their bingo profits. The city currently makes $300,000 off of the bingo halls and they say that the halls have already said that they want to participate as well.

The bingo halls have already brought in $1.8 million for charities, and by excluding them they would be signing a kind of death sentence for them. Many of the people that currently support those charities with their gaming would most likely end up going to the race track or casino to play the slot machines, and the bingo halls and through them the charities would end up paying the price.
