Court Crushes Hopes
There
are those that have been hanging onto the idea that they might
actually stand a chance of seeing slot machines spread across
the state. Most of these hopeful citizens are probably the slot
machine manufacturers as they were hoping that But a
state appellate court has ruled this week that the bill that
would have allowed the slot machines to come in was
unconstitutional and could not move forward as planned. They
said that the bill violated the state’s single subject rule as
it had several things that it was looking to do. It would have
legalized slot machines at bars, taverns, truck stops, veterans’
halls, fraternal organizations, etc. The slot machine providers
were excited as the bill would have brought them in a lot of
money, especially since some of those locations would have been
in Experts say that Governor Pat Quinn will most likely appeal the ruling, but even if they are approved they have managed to delay the shipments of the slot machines once approved well into next year. This is bad news for the slot machine manufacturers as they were hoping for those slot machine sales to be on this years’ books.
