Hospitality Operators Not Pleased

The Seneca Tribe is great for the state. They have slot machines and they bring in millions of dollars to the state every year. They give away tons of slot machine specials and prizes to their clients and everyone is happy. Well, maybe not everyone. You see the Senecas do not pay taxes on those slot machines and they follow different rules and laws than everyone else in the hospitality industry. As they are a sovereign nation they are exempt from much of the problems that the rest of the hospitality industry faces and every one else is not happy about that.

According to experts, they “pose a formidable threat to any and all other hospitality operations in Western New York” and this does not sit well with the rest of the industry. They say that the competition that is currently in place for the tribe as opposed to everyone else has put them at an unfair advantage – one that they have no hope of making up. There is a group of people who are trying to stop another slot machine casino from coming into downtown Buffalo as they say that it is simply going to be more of the same.

They say that they want to know exactly how much money will be going to Albany from the new casino as they are being told how great these slot machines are going to be for them. However, these slot machines are going to take money from local businesses – money that the state is not going to reimburse them.
