New Bill Would Make More Money

There is a new bill that is being kicked around the Georgia legislature these days, and it has to do with taxing slot machines. The bill would add a sales tax to all slot machines, so that when you play it, you end up paying tax to play. The idea is that all winnings would be stored on a gift card that the players would use to collect their winnings when they are playing coin operated slot machines.

The slot machine game winnings would be stored on this card that the players could then use to purchase more plays or certain merchandise only. Right now it is illegal for any one to win money or prizes on the slot machines so they are really playing for fun. But this new bill would allow them to win, they would just have to use that money for certain prizes or the playing of the slot machines.

But when they use the card at the store, they would be paying a sales tax on those items, so it would essentially come back to the fact that you are paying a tax to play those slot machines. The report shows that the state could end up netting more than $100 million in sales taxes annually from the playing of these games and the payment of the taxes. Now as it is illegal to make any money off of the playing of these slot machines right now, there are several hurdles that the bill must jump in order to become law, but many think that it is a great idea.
