Beloit’s Getting Slot Machines The Midwest regional office of the Interior Department’s Bureau of Indian Affairs has given the green light for a slot machine casino in Beloit, Wisconsin. The Director of the regional office, Terry Virden, said he approved the slot machine casino because the residents and officials of Beloit were behind the request 100%. Two different tribes will be building the slot machine casino, and getting approval is a big step because it is the longest step. The St. Croix Chippewa Indians and the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians first submitted the slot machine casino proposal in 2001, and have been awaiting a response. From here, the slot machine proposal will go to Washington for the Interior Department to review it. With the slot machine proposal now on to Washington, they could be looking at another year, because of the details of the plan. The slot machine casino would not be located on the tribes’ homelands, so there could be more time taken while the department reviews it. According to experts, they will take more time to approve the slot machine proposal because it is not on their land.
