New Bill to Add Table Gaming to Slot Machines

With Pennsylvania legalizing slot machines, there has been a lot of talk of West Virginia bringing in table games to supplement their slot machine income. Many felt it was just talk however, and do not want to see gambling expand past the slot machines that are already in the state. Table game supporters think that if you already have slot machines in place, why you would not try to keep that revenue as high as it has been by giving gamblers another choice is beyond them.

The table gaming bill will have some new features this year however, by adding a tax increase and a repeal provision, and lawmakers think it might pass this time. Not only is the bill different, but circumstances are different as well. This time around PA has slot machines, there are new officials, and it isn’t an election year – all of these things will assist the table game bill in getting passed.

One of the new provisions on the bill allows residents of the four counties that would be adding table games to their slot machines to repeal the bill five years after it is passed if they think it is not working out for them. It would also change the amount of tax that would be on the table games from 12% to 24%.

The tax increase alone would bring in millions of dollars for the state, and lawmakers think that the change in the bill would work in their favor in getting the bill passed. Racetrack owners keep talking about all the jobs that were created with the addition of the slot machines, and how if table games are approved as well, there would be more jobs created as well.
