You Can’t Count on Slot Machine Payouts Most people know that the slot machines are set up to pay back a certain amount of money to the players. The state regulates how much they can minimally give back, and then the casinos ensure that their slot machines follow the rules. Many casinos, in fact I would venture to say most casinos, set their slot machines to pay back at a higher rate to draw the crowds in. Most states regulate the payback rates on the slot machines to be somewhere around 85% and most casinos payback at higher rates. However, let’s say you go to a casino to play their slot machines because you know that their average payback is 93.5%, thus supposedly ensuring a payback of 93.5 cents on each dollar. Therefore, if you don’t hit a big jackpot, you are basically going to lose, on average 6.5 cents on each dollar. Now, again, these are averages – which mean you are probably going to lose more than that. The slot machines will payout to someone at some point, so it could be you, but don’t count on it or you will join a million other people who are counting on the same thing. The most important thing to remember is that the slot machines are geared to make the casinos money, and they are not going to lose money or they will lose the slot machines. One last thought for you, the higher the denomination on the slot machine, normally the higher the payout. On average the nickel slot machines payout 92.5%, the quarter slot machines payout 94.1%, the dollar slot machines payout 95.9% and the five dollar slot machines payout 98.4%. So the more you play, the more you can win – but that also means the more you can lose. Back to January Index - Slot Machines Fan |
