First Slot Machine Casinos Cry “No Fair!”With the Pennsylvania Gaming Board looking at the bottom of their bank account, they only have two choices – close the department or have the casinos anti up a little more slot machine revenue. They have chosen to go after the casinos for more slot machine revenue, which in itself is not that big of a deal. The problem lies in how they are going about taxing those slot machines to their own benefit. The board originally wanted the casinos to give them 5% of their slot machine revenue, and they said no. They said that the number was too high, and that the amount of slot machine revenue needed to be less. The board agreed and they are currently working on a compromise to that effect. However, they are looking to put the slot machine tax on those casinos that are already open, and they say that it isn’t fair. They say that they are being penalized for having their slot machines up and running first, and that all of the casinos should have to pull their fair share of the weight. They are now looking at perhaps a maximum slot machine revenue of 4.3% going to the board, but there is still the matter of the casinos that have not opened yet. The law gives the Revenue Department to use slot machine revenues to fund the gambling regulatory activities, but it also says that those casinos that have not yet opened will not have to pay the fee.
