Greenwich Makes Slot Machine Decisions

The Greenwich Council has decided how they are going to grant their slot machine and gambling licenses. The Gambling Act 2005 stated that they had to come up with strict principles by which each applicant for a slot machine and gambling license would have to adhere to. It was imperative that the group come up with their conditions, as the responsibility for making that decision will transfer to local authorities at the end of April.

The group decided that their main responsibility was to ensure the safety of their residents, their children, and the “vulnerable” from the hazards that can come from slot machine casinos. The council is also putting together a team to examine what sort of social impact the Gambling Act will have on them. The council is trying to put everything in place just in case they are approved to build a supercasino at the Dome and bring in slot machines and gambling tables. However, even if they are not approved for it, they wanted to go ahead with the things that they needed to take care of to ensure their residents’ safety.

The group got together with leaders of many groups including the police and religious groups – all of whom had a say in the slot machine rules and regulations. The most important thing for many of them was that their children be protected and prohibited from underage gambling. They were also concerned that bringing in a slot machine casino would bring in crime, as well as making sure that residents are fully aware of the way gambling works and where it is located so they can avoid it if they choose to.
