Harrah’s Bringing More than Slot Machines

Chester has seen its share of hard times, but slot machines are about to change all of that. The city lost many jobs when the heavy industry companies left – and now with the slot machines coming in – so are more jobs. In fact the slot machines are bringing in almost 1,000 jobs – which makes the people of Chester very happy.

Harrah’s Chester Casino is the town’s savior, bringing in the slot machines and the jobs needed to run them. The casino will have more than 2,700 slot machines, and will be open 24/7. Theirs is just the third of 11 slot machine parlors that will open in Pennsylvania by the end of next year. With the casinos comes slot machine revenue – which the city needs badly as well.

Chester needs the slot machines, and the income that will come as a result of it being there – especially since the median household income is less than the state median by about a third. The slot machines will be joined b harness racing that opened in September for a while and finished out the season. The racing will be back in July. The town of Chester is guaranteed a minimum of $10 million in slot machine revenue – which is more than 1/4^th of the city’s overall budget.

The Mayor is happy that the slot machines are here because it means he won’t have to increase taxes for his residents – as well as bring in more jobs. Chester will also get a half a million a year in income taxes from the slot machine employees.
