Indiana Split over Slot Machines Each year the legislature in Indiana hears about some bill trying to legalize slot machines in the state. The pari-mutuels have talked about it for years, trying to get the slot machines legalized as they are slowly dying out. If a slot machine bill is not passed soon, the tracks will no longer exist. There
are two bills this year, with one allowing 2,500 slot machines
at each track in the state. The riverboats currently share their
slot machine revenue with both the state and with the tracks,
but it isn’t enough to keep them going, or make them
competitive. With slot machines the tracks could offer higher
purses, which they cannot do as it stands right now.
