Slot Machine Polls Kansans for Economic Growth recently hired the group Cole Hargrave, Snodgrass & Associates to see if they could do a study of slot machines and gambling in the state of Kansas – and to see if they could get a feeling for the climate. They want to legalize slot machines in the state, and were hoping that they might be successful if the climate is turning their way. The poll showed that 46% of Kansans supported the idea of bringing in slot machine casinos to the state. They were asked if they supported non tribal slot machine casinos in the state of Kansas. They found that 39% of the respondents were opposed to slot machine casinos, and 15% were undecided. Proponents for slot machines in Kansas have been trying for years to get them passed, and many are hoping that with a new legislature in there they might get lucky and get slot machines legalized. They say that the millions in slot machine revenue that ends up going to neighboring states could in fact be supporting their state. They say that they need the extra revenue that the slot machines could bring in, just as much as any other state. Many think that the slot machine revenue could be used to offset property taxes or help give more funding to schools. Park City and the Wichita Greyhound Park have both been trying to get slot machines legalized for many years, and they don’t care whether or not that means bringing in a slot machine casino or just allowing them at the tracks themselves.
