Were Slot Machines Ever Really Not on the Agenda? The legislature keeps saying that they are not planning on discussing slot machines but slot machines or gambling will be on the agenda at some point whether they accept that or not. There are factions working within the state that very much want to see slot machines legalized, and there are those that don’t want that – however, either way the slot machines will be a point of discussion. Rep. William San Bento – a long held supporter of the slot machines at Lincoln Park and Newport Grand, said that he thinks that he has some ideas on how to help their revenues. He thinks that reel-type slot machines may be the way to go. He says that since slot machines are the state’s third largest source of income, they need to do something to keep it alive – especially with all of the competition that they have been facing from other states. To expand gambling and slot machines throughout the state, there needs to be a statewide vote. However, San Bento says that if they use machines that are very much like slot machines – but really aren’t – they don’t need to take it to a vote. He thinks that they can use slot machine type gaming machines to support the lottery, in conjunction with the video lottery terminals. If he succeeds, there could end up being more slot machines in the state, and the voters won’t have had anything to say about it.
