Atlantic City Slot Machines Have Traffic Issues

Atlantic City, NJ used to be the place on the East Coast to go if you wanted to play the slot machines. However, there are now other options for locals, as well as visitors, with Pennsylvania bringing in 61,000 slot machines of their own. Philadelphia is only about an hour away from AC, and with the traffic issues that AC has been having, their slot machines are starting to look pretty good.

With the new construction of more casinos and more slot machines, AC is looking to add another 40,000 employees to that daily commute down the Black Horse or White Horse Pikes. Then there are those who will choose to come down the Garden State Parkway – who will be caught up in what has become one big parking lot – especially on the weekends. The city needs to start spending less time on bringing in more slot machines and spend more time working on a traffic plan.

The AC Convention and Visitors Authority is trying to get another 10 million visitors a year to come play the slot machines, but how are these people going to get in the city? The South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) is planning on adding a third lane to the AC Expressway to try and help with the slot machine casino visitors, but it will take years to complete and will do very little to help.

The slot machine and gambling casinos should have come up with a plan and implemented it by now, for they are starting just a little too late. By waiting until it became a problem, they have missed their mark. They knew that other states were bringing in slot machines, and yet they did nothing to entice people to come and play theirs. If New Jersey ends up losing a large chunk of their slot machine revenue they will have no one to blame but themselves.
