Macau’s Slot Machines Performing WellAsian gambling analysts are calling Macau the new Las Vegas, as their slot machine and gambling revenue has now surpassed that of Vegas. Macau brought in $6.95 billion last year, and Vegas brought in somewhere between $6.5 and $6.6 billion. However, some are saying that you cannot actually count that, as the revenues are compiled differently in each place. Vegas operators in Macau say that the Chinese account for the slot machine and gambling revenue totals before promotional allowances for customers are deducted. They say that although they do not feel that Macau surpassed Vegas this year, they do think that there is a good chance that they will bring in more slot machine and gambling revenues than Vegas next year. They say that Macau is growing so quickly that they will easily pass the numbers that Vegas’s slot machines are showing this year. They know that with more major Vegas based casinos coming into Macau this year, including the $2.4 billion Venetian Macau, that it is just a matter of time. The slot machine and gambling revenue went up 22% from 2005, and experts think that with the Venetian Macau opening, there is no reason why they shouldn’t see their numbers top $8 billion this year. However, gaming analysts say that if you look at Clark County as a whole, which includes the Strip, North Las Vegas, Henderson, downtown Las Vegas, etc. their numbers are actually in excess of more than $9.7 billion.
