Racinos Hope for Positive ResultsThe racinos in Kansas are hoping that the Kansas Supreme Court will uphold the Kansas Expanded Lottery Act that was passed last year and enable them to bring slot machines to the state’s tracks. Once approved, the slot machines were to start coming in by 2010 and the slot machines located at the Woodlands and at Camptown Greyhound Park could be up and running as soon as the end of summer. However, the state’s attorney general thinks that the slots are not legal and wants to have the law repealed. He says that the law does not allow for slot machines in the state and is asking the courts to uphold his objections. Meanwhile, as no stay was placed on them, slot machines have begun their flight to Kansas. The racetracks are going ahead with their desire to bring in slot machines, as they say that without the stay they have the legal right to do so. Those that have an existing facility are using it as a temporary slot machine casino until they can get their permanent ones completed. The tracks have that advantage over the casinos as they have to put millions into construction of the facilities and have to wait before they will be able to move forward with actually having the slot machines running.
