Kansas Gaming on Hold

Kansas is trying to balance the state budget with some difficulties as there just isn’t enough revenue coming in to support the state and all of their programs. This includes slot machines as they aren’t bringing in what they used to bring in either. According to sources, the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission has seen a significant slow down.

The agency has announced that they will need to lay off eleven employees, and is decreasing the hours of ten other employees as well. The biggest problem that they are facing is that the number of people looking to bring in slot machines has drastically reduced as well. There were a number of casino projects that were bringing in slot machines, which would have brought in significant revenue for the state, and now there is only one project still in the works.

The only slot machines that are still coming in are the Boot Hill Casino and Resort in Dodge City. The developer that was going to bring in slot machines to Wyandotte County has pulled out for now and said that he would be resubmitting a plan for the casino, and now others are back in the running for it as well.

They have also opened applications for slot machines in Sumner and Cherokee counties, but they say that with the current economic situation that there is very little chance that they will see those casinos any time soon. The slot machine slow down hurts them and their bottom line significantly, for the revenue that they were expecting to come in now will not be nearly as much, nor will they be in anytime soon.
