Nebraska Holds Slot Machine Hearing

There are many in Nebraska that think that an expansion of slot machines within the state is a great idea, but there are those that don’t. Those for the slot machines say that there is a necessity to them that warrants it – for in this economy the state could use all the funding it can get. However, others say that the slot machines come at too high of a price.

However those that are pushing for the slot machine expansion are getting their day in court. They would like to see slot machines legalized at Nebraska racetracks and have gotten a hearing this upcoming Monday in the Unicameral. The General Affairs Committee will be meeting at 1:30 pm to discuss the slot machines, known as bills LB 266 and LR6CA.

Nebraska is not alone in their quest to bring in slot machines. There are at least fourteen other states that are looking to also bring in slot machines or to expand the gambling that they already have in an effort to make their budgets balance, and make up for shortfalls that would otherwise end up in cuts in education or other programs.

Many states think that by bringing in slot machines they can fix their budget problems, but those that are opposed to the slot machines say that the money that they get comes at too high of a price. They say that the slot machines will bring with them addiction, and thus more money will need to be brought in to fix that as well.
