New Attempts in Slot MachinesThe Birmingham Race Course has been though many variations, but all of them mean one thing – they are bound and determined to get slot machines at their track. The race course has been trying for years to get slot machines legalized at their location, but so far to no avail. However, it seems that Milton McGregor, the owner of the track, has come up with another plan. McGregor has been trying through politics to get slot machines legalized. Then once all those attempts failed he tried doing it on his own only to be smacked back down again. One of his attempts to get slot machines was to offer an “Internet Sweepstakes” and the Alabama Supreme Court shut it down. Now his idea sounds crazily familiar as he tries to bring in an “Instant Racing” operation instead. The Birmingham Racing Commission approved the plan last week, but many say it sounds just like the old plan and they don’t expect it to last. Gamblers will bet on horse races that have already taken place, but they won’t know which race it actually is. The race will run on equipment that looks and sounds just like a slot machine. This is simply one more attempt at getting slot machines in without actually bringing in slot machines. The slot machines are already in use at other tracks across the country. One track in Arkansas said that they have 350 of the machines and that they bring in more than $17 million a month. That is more revenue than the track brought in all last year.
