Slot Machine Caps are
Gone
Slot
machine manufacturers are not exactly pleased that the state of But the
state has given them something in return. They are offering them
a carrot for the many that they will lose – they have eliminated
slot machine caps. There was a provision as part of the
Pennsylvania Gaming Act that had a 50% limit on slot machines.
This means that they could not have their slot machines on more
than 50% of the gaming floor – giving more opportunities to the
smaller companies to get some business. But the
state has now removed that cap and now the slot machine
manufacturers are going to be able to take a 100% stake in the
casinos if they so desire. This gives the casinos a little more
bargaining power as well as they will be able to offer this to
the various slot machine manufacturers giving them more leverage
in the amount that they will have to pay them. The only people who are not going to like this new law is the smaller companies that were having a hard enough time competing with companies like International Game Technology – who was thrilled, of course, with the move. Bally Technologies and WMS Gaming wanted the original caps, and IGT did not as they were currently holding 60% of the available slot machines out there.
