Gronstal Doubts They’ll be Successful

Senate Democratic Leader Mike Gronstal thinks that trying to bring slot machines into Iowa is not only not a good idea, but that it is one that is going to fail. He thinks that those people who think that slot machines are going to start spreading across the state are in for a rude awakening, as he says residents will never stand for it.

He says that he doesn’t see the legislature approving bringing in the slot machines, and the last time that they were discussed it was not met with high approval. The legislature is considering bringing in slot machines to Iowa bars and taverns as a way of bringing in more revenue for the state. As you see in every other state, their budget is more than they have money for – so if you want your child to get a good education, you’d better vote for slot machines as education always gets cut first.

In 2006 Iowa actually voted to get rid of the Touch Play machines that were so popular because they were so much like traditional slot machines. These slot machine type games were located in bars, convenience stores, and grocery stores. Gronstal thinks that people are going to remember the slot machine removal and vote against bringing them back in.

The slot machines would allow additional tax dollars to be raised, but many residents say that it would be at the expense of them. They argue that the money has to come from somewhere and if you are a resident of the state it will end up coming from your pocket.
