The
state of The Ohio
Attorney General’s Office has been going after these various
establishments that are offering the skill games and shutting
them down as they say that they are running illegal slot
machines instead. They just shut down several locations this
past Friday and when they sent in their undercover officers they
were paid in cash at four locations. This is obviously against
the law. If this is true, then they are not only knowingly
breaking the law, but they are facing a whole lot of trouble in
doing so.
But
there are some that have gotten legal representation as they say
that the laws as they pertain to slot machines are not clear cut
and are clearly open for interpretation. They say that the
statute is poorly written and that the definition of skill is
murky. They are confused as to what makes the slot machine
legal. The wording says that if the player has the ability to
influence the outcome of the machine then it is skill based;
otherwise it is a slot machine. The problem with this is that
there are many games that would be considered slot machines that
are actually skill based. The business owners in the state
simply want it to be made clearer so that they don’t break the
law and get into trouble.
