Florida Nearing Deal with Seminoles

It may be possible for Florida state to get themselves so tied up that nothing ever gets accomplished – or at least this is how it appears to anyone looking outside of the state and their dealings with the Seminole Tribe. Years ago the Seminole Indians wanted to bring in slot machines to the state, and Governor Jeb Bush did everything in his power to keep them out.

This was not difficult as the state did not offer slot machines so he didn’t have to let them. But then Miami Dade and Broward Counties voted to allow slot machines in their counties so the state now had to allow them to bring them in. But still, the governor stood by and would not allow them to bring in the slot machines, to the point where the federal government was going to allow them to bring them in and we wouldn’t see a dime from them.

If he had just allowed them to come in before the other counties allowed it the state of Florida would have gotten a nice amount of money from the slot machines and we wouldn’t have had to bargain with more. Instead, he left it for Governor Charlie Crist to deal with, and when the government finally said that they had to let them in Crist tried to set a deal with them and was successful. Until other legislators in the government got mad because their opinion wasn’t asked and derailed the plan.

Now the state is looking to bring in slot machines and table games in order to keep the tribe happy – which they are going to have to do. If they want to see any of the revenue from the slot machines and gambling then they have to make a deal. This has been going on for quite some time, but now it almost appears as though they are ready for a deal to be made. Government officials say that they would like to see the compact with the tribe signed, and that it looks as though that might be a possibility this year.
