AC Casinos Evaluating Racetrack Slot Machines

The Atlantic City casinos have long had pressure on the state to keep them from legalizing slot machines at the racetracks. As state after state fall to the lure of revenue that can come from the slot machines, AC is holding out hope that they will not have to compete with the tracks in their own state as well as those outside of it.

It is no secret that the horse racing industry has fought in many states to try and keep its head above water by adding in the slot machines. They increase revenue for the track to put into purses, and then in turn the higher purses bring in more to the track. Experts say that it is difficult to exist as a racetrack without slot machines these days.

However, the casinos say that they are bleeding money due to the slot machines that are coming into the states around them, and if the racetracks are now allowed the slot machines as well – they will even lose business from those in their own state. They say that they cannot afford for the tracks to get slot machines, and the tracks say that they cannot afford not to.

The tracks continue to maintain that they are having a hard time as well, and that they are in more of an immediate danger than the casinos are because they have been suffering for years without the slot machines. They say they can’t compete against the other tracks because they have slot machines, and they can’t compete against the casinos because the state won’t allow them to.
