Let’s Vote Again!

Voters in Miami-Dade County will get another chance to decide if slot machines are right for them or not. After watching Broward County legalize the slot machines and bring in all that revenue, some residents of Miami-Dade County have been wondering if they made the right decision in choosing not to legalize the slot machines. Well, now they are going to get a second chance to make that decision.

Commissioners decided on Tuesday to put the slot machine measure on the January ballot again. If they choose yes, they will legalize slot machines at three pari-mutuels in the county. The last time they had this choice, voters decided against the legalization of the slot machines, back in March of 2005.

Broward County voters chose at that same time to legalize slot machines at their racetracks, and since that time they have all expanded to include the slot machines. They have also given quite a hefty sum of money to Florida’s public schools as they get a portion of the slot machine revenues.

The referendum will appear on the presidential primary ballot on January 29^th, and will also feature a proposed constitutional amendment on property taxes. Opponents are gearing up for the fight again as they say that the slot machines bring with them nothing but trouble and gambling addiction. They may have a harder time proving that this time around as residents are wanting a piece of the slot machine revenue pie that Broward has been enjoying.
