BC Sees Gaming Revenue Increase

The BC Lottery Corporation’s Annual Report has just been released, and they are showing that their casino revenues have gone up 11% to more than $1.2 billion. Their biggest single income generator was Richmond’s River Rock Casino which brought in $233 million, which is up 8% from last year. They were the only casino where their table games brought in more revenue than their slot machines.

The Lower Mainland Casinos brought in the bulk of the $1.2 billion collectively, with $870 million coming in. Burnaby’s Gateway Casino saw a 9% increase in revenue, bringing in $164.8 million, and Coquitlam’s Boulevard came in right under them at $158.2 million – although they had a larger increase of 22% over the previous year.

The lottery corporation said that their profit margin rose to 42% with profit after expenses hitting the one billion mark for the first time. They gave away more than $140 in grants to charitable organizations and community groups. They think that a large part of their revenue gain was the upgrading of slot machines.

The slot machines that many of the casinos had prior were older models, and instead, they updated those slot machines to include thing like Pacific Hold’em Poker, which is very popular. They also added more slot machines to the mix by giving new community gaming centers new slot machines as well.

Some of the new slot machines have not even had a chance to be played yet with some delays in openings, so experts say that once those slot machines are up and running they should be looking at even more revenue increases for next year.
