Suit Closet Comes from Slot Machine Win

Vani Kumar had a dream, and it was to open a shop that sold suits to women. She had a business plan, which she had literally just finished writing and working on. She had made a plan, and was trying to figure out how to finance it when luck struck and she won the slot machine jackpot.

She knew when she saw how much the slot machine jackpot was that she would be able to open her dream. The slot machine had been ringing and lights were flashing, and her father came running because he thought someone had collapsed. However, that was not the case – instead his daughter had won a slot machine jackpot in the amount of $286,665.

Vani said that after taxes, her slot machine winnings were only $200 off from what she had thought she would need in order to open the business. So with her slot machine winnings she opened The Suit Closet. It carries more than 1,200 name brand suits in all styles and colors. All of them range from $200 to $350, and she says that by having them all in one place she enables women to take care of shopping that could ultimately end up taking them days to find – all in one store.

Kumar had originally planned on being a doctor like her father and went to UC Irvine as pre-dental. Her last year of school she realized that she wanted to be something in fashion, not dentistry. She started Fashionistas, and on-campus group devoted to fashion, and after graduating she went to FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) – graduating magna cum laude in apparel manufacturing.

Kumar says she has done so well from her slot machine winnings, that she is now looking to open a second location – and she has a slot machine to thank for all of it!
