Table Games Support from CommissionThe Kanawha County Commission has been riding the fence as far as table games go. Voters have been waiting to see which way the commission is going to vote so they could gage which way the public would vote. Many thought that the commission was unanimously in favor of the table games, but it seems that this is not the case. It seems that they are somewhat split on the idea of table games. The commission voted on Thursday to approve a resolution in support of table games with a 2-1 margin. Commission President Kent Harper introduced the measure and voted in favor of it. Commissioner Hoppy Shores also backed the table games referendum. However, Commissioner Dave Hardy voted no for the measure as he says he did not want to influence voters when they went to the polls. He said that he doesn’t know whether or not the games are a good idea, so he is definitely not going to tell voters what to do. Up until now he has been the only Commissioner to not tell voters how he was planning on voting, while the other two have been very vocal in their support. Carper says that he supports the referendum because of the jobs that it will bring in. Shores said that he is in favor of them as well because it will bring in both jobs and economic development. The games will bring in more than 900 new jobs and are planning on using local construction workers to further support the local economy.
