Treasure Cove Wants More Slot Machines

Treasure Cove has applied for the ability to increase the number of slot machines that they are currently allowed to have. They are asking to add an additional 175 slot machines, which would be an almost 50% increase over their current amount. They would like the limit of 400 slot machines to be increased to 575 slot machines allowed.

The city council will be holding a public hearing on July 9^th to see if they should amend the current allotment of slot machines, and if they are approved the casino show lounge would be converted to make room for the additional slot machines.

The casino will also be replacing the berm on their property with a sound proof fence and more parking spaces. The owner of the property says that they get more complaints about the fact that there are not enough slot machines than any other complaint.

They say that they have a “peak demand” for slot machines on the weekends when they have out of towners come in, and there just are not enough to go around. They say that they already asked their neighbors what they thought in a public forum held on June 5^th and did not receive any concerns from residents.

The project would end up costing them about $5 million and would create 50 new jobs at the casino. It would also bring in around $1 million in additional slot machine revenue for the city.
