Seneca Gaming Calling on GovernorAt the New York Gaming Summit this week, outside of the Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel, Rajat Shah let the attendees know exactly the tribe felt. He represents the Seneca Gaming Corporation, and they want to see more monetary contributions, as well as more support from the government so that they can move forward with plans to expand. First they want the government to give up some more of the money that they have and give it to local government. The state currently takes 75% of the slot machine revenue and gives local government 25%. The tribe would like to see them spend more money on the tourism in the area so that they all benefit from gaining even more money. Secondly, they are having issues with a citizens group in Buffalo that is trying to stop the construction of the casino downtown. The tribe says that they would like the governor to give them some assistance as they went through all of the proper channels to get the land. However, they say that they have heard very little from the state. They say that the state wants to be a partner and get the revenue from the slot machines, but they don’t want to actually have to do anything to earn it. They say that they are bringing in more than 6,000 jobs with the new casino and because the state is benefiting greatly from these changes, they had better step up and help them make it a reality.
