Looks Like Manchester’s Not Getting Slot Machine Super Casino

The new British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has been very outspoken in his criticism of Tony Blair’s attempts to bring in more slot machines and a super casino that was to be located in Manchester. The previous government’s policy had planned on building the super casino there, and thus bringing in millions of dollars in slot machine and gambling revenue which would encourage much needed growth in Manchester.

Brown, however, feels that slot machines are not the way to go about that and according to his camp the super casino is “pretty much dead in the water.” He is still, however, allowing sixteen smaller slot machine casinos to go ahead as planned, and some are wondering why he is penalizing Manchester but not the others.

The number of jobs alone that the slot machine casino would have brought in would have been over 2,700 for the region, and many say that Brown is simply penalizing them because it was Blair who had pushed the casino through. They say that with the new regime they are the only ones being targeted as even the online bingo players will not be affected by the developments.

Brown had previously voted for the super casinos, but now says that he thinks that there are other ways to regenerate the area without all of the slot machines that would come in. It seems that Brown is bowing to some political pressure that comes from an anti-gambling group that convinced politicians to reject the proposal last year.
