Hoosier Park Expanding Slot MachinesThe Indiana Horse Racing Commission has approved a request from Hoosier Park to buy land so that they can expand the number of slot machines that they have. The commission agreed to the sale of 19 acres from Virgil Cook to Centaur Inc, the owners of the track. Virgil Cook has been a partner of the track since it opened 13 years ago. Centaur has purchased the land for $1 million, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, they should close the deal by the end of July. Hoosier Park says that they have looked at several plans for construction of the new slot machine expansion, but they have not as yet decided on one. They say that no matter what they end up with, it will need to have lots of parking for the slot machine players. There is a meeting among the Anderson Planning Commission so that an area around the park can be rezoned. The final plans will need to be approved by the horse racing commission, but they do not anticipate any problems. Hoosier
Park
is not the only park looking to expand their slot machines, as
Indiana Downs will be bringing in more slot machines as well.
With legislators approving a new bill that allows them to have
as many as 2,000 slot machines, it is only natural that both
tracks would undertake the addition of them.
